Building the last Main Line Railway

Catesby Tunnel and Viaduct: gcrcs160

This photograph was taken looking north along the course of the GC's Main Line from the rising ground above the portal of Catesby tunnel. Spanning the cutting beyond the tunnel's entrance is bridge 488, a brick arch occupation structure built to carry a farm track.

Interestingly, located a short distance to the west of this point is Catesby House, the historic building in which Guy Fawkes, Robert Catesby and others hatched their Gunpowder Plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament.
