Building the last Main Line Railway
Catesby Tunnel and Viaduct: gcrcs150
A wonderful snapshot of the timber headgear that was erected
at the top of one of the tunnel shafts sunk during the construction of Catesby
tunnel. The rather haphazard planking and the debris that is strewn across the
foreground combine to give the photograph an atmospheric and somewhat anarchic
impression. On the left, a number of navvies have turned to face the
camera.
