Building the last Main Line Railway
Newton to the Oxford Canal: gcrcs140
These massive brick piers formed part of the Great Central
viaduct on the north side of Oxford Canal, Rugby. Further along the embankment
is the brick arch bridge that carried the London Extension across the River
Avon. At the centre of the picture is a temporary wooden shelter. Part of the
structure has been built to house a steam engine, the chimney of which can be
seen protruding from the roof.
