Building the last Main Line Railway
Great Central Bridge and Viaduct: gcrcs125
This photograph was taken during construction of the large
girder bridge that carried the Great Central's Main Line across the London
& North Western Railway at Rugby. As can be seen the sides are half
complete with the top bracing yet to be started.
Built by T. Oliver & Son as part of Contract No.4 (Rugby
to Woodford), the bridge formed part of the long viaduct that also spanned the
Oxford Canal and the flood plain of the River Avon.
