Building the last Main Line Railway
Flecknoe, Willoughby and Staverton: gcrcs119
Contractor's temporary rails snake their way beneath a three
arch brick overbridge spanning a dressed cutting near Nethercote, Warwickshire.
Despite being hastily laid and badly maintained, these rough tracks were the
backbone of the Line's construction, allowing men, materials and machinery to
be ferried back and forth along the route. T. Oliver & Son was the firm
contracted to build this section of the Railway (Contract No.4, Rugby to
Woodford).
