Building the last Main Line Railway

Flecknoe, Willoughby and Staverton: gcrcs118

LNER stations and trains

Photographed around 1897, this is the completed plate girder occupation underbridge that carried the GC's Main Line over a path east of Nethercote, Warwickshire. A young man, possibly Newton himself, stands on the embankment and poses for the camera. Thomas Oliver & Son was the firm contracted to build this section of the Railway (Contract No.4, Rugby to Woodford).
