Building the last Main Line Railway

Newton to the Oxford Canal: gcrcs103

LNER stations and trains

Photographed at Rugby on 13.03.1897, this skew brick arch underbridge was constructed to carry the GC Main Line across a road just north of the River Avon. Note the bridge's parapet has yet to be built, and the temporary wooden centring has still to be removed. Topham, Jones & Railton was the firm contracted to build this section of the Railway (Contract No.3, Aylestone to Rugby).
