Looking towards Birmingham with the main buildings on the left and Wood End Lane road bridge crossing the line at an oblique angle. The main buildings on the up platform were built when the line opened to passenger traffic on 1st July 1908. Access to the station was convoluted being via a pathway that ran parallel to the line which led from Broad Lane. Whilst its known that the GWR were compelled to locate the station at this point its not known why passengers had to walk this longer route when a more direct route from Wood End Lane would have been easier. Wood End Lane, after which the station was named, is seen in the distance and ran to Broad Lane behind the photographer.
