GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

Southam Road and Harbury: Photo gwrsrh284b

Close up showing the main station building located between the down platform and the goods access road

Close up of image "gwrsrh284" showing the main station building which was positioned to face both the down platform and the access road to the goods yard. The internal configuration of the building can be assessed by architectural features of the building. The windows nearest the camera are barred which together with the single chimney above the corner would indicate that the room is the booking office. The two pillars on the left are either side of the main entrance which would indicate that this would lead on to the booking hall. The large chimney on the far side would accommodate two flues meaning that the waiting rooms (ladies and general) were located on the far side of the building.

Interestingly both the road and rail archways appear to be to a common design originally built to 7 foot broad gauge dimensions.
