GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Spring Road Platform: gwrsr649
Looking towards Birmingham from the down station with the up
platform on the right during the 1950-60s. This photograph is thought to have
been taken at the same time as image 'gwrsr292' best indicated by comparing the
tree silhouetted against the sky. The GWR platform sign is starting to show its
age and is complemented by the BR 'Totem' seen on the oil lamp post to its
right. The post to the down signal can just be seen under the bridge. Access to
the 'Platform' was via a sloping path on each side of the running lines. There
was no barrow crossing as there were no staff to use them. It appears that from
the beginning, the GWR regarded Spring Road as just the equivalent of an
Edwardian commuter stop.
