GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Spring Road Platform: gwrsr292
Looking towards Birmingham in the 1950/60s. Note the low
signal probably deliberately constructed to this height for the signal arm to
'stand out' against the brickwork of the bridge abutment. The platform
buildings were of corregated sheeting built to a GWR modular design.
Whilst Spring Road was constructed when the North
Warwickshire Line was first opened in 1908 it was never considered to be worthy
of the title 'Station' as it's facilities were rather basic. The platform
status meant that these were often unmanned halts with just the minimum
facilities of a waiting rom. Sprong Road however was a little grander than
other 'Platforms' on the line such as at Pebworth as it had toilet facilities
too.
