GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Shirley Station: gwrsh647
British Railways built to a SR design 4-6-2 West Country
class No 34105 'Swanage' passes through Shirley on an empty stock working bound
for Stratford upon Avon on 24th July 1963. The train, which was a special to
Stratford, ran to Tyseley for servicing and to wait for its return path. It is
seen here running back to Stratford for its return journey. The signal box can
be seen behind the loco and in the goods yard, behind the fence can be seen
coal merchants huts including one owned by the local Cooperative Society. Built
at Brighton works in March 1950, No 34105 remained in service until it was
withdrawn from Eastleigh shed in October 1964 and was fortunate to have
survived into preservation.
