Close up of image 'gwrsa614' showing the side of the combined coaling stage and water tank with a wagon placed to coal the next engine. The extension on the left of the building was the ramp, fully enclosed on the top and sides, from which the tubs were tipped. These were on rails which curled up at the very end over the locomotive enabling the railway labourer to tip the tub without it toppling into the tender or bunker. As coaling was a day and night activity gas or oil lamps have been placed at the corner of the coaling house whilst above the cantilevered ramp an electric light has been installed. The large bore pipe on the buildings gable end is from the water tank which will supply a network of pipes taking the water to the columns across the shed and station. The sign over the door reads 'Caution Engines Must Not Pass The Arch'.
