GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

GWR 4-6-0 Saint class No 2977 'Robertson' is seen on a Birkenhead to Paddington service as it picks up water at Rowington Troughs. Built at Swindon works as unnamed No 177 in April 1905 it was named in April 1907. When first built it was fitted with a half-cone boiler and was then fitted with a full-cone boiler in June 1909. It reverted to a half-cone boiler in May 1911 when it fitted with superheaters. It remained in service until February 1935 when it was withdrawn from Westbury shed for scrapping shortly afterwards at Swindon works.
