GWR Route: Moreton-in-Marsh to Shipston-on-Stour
Moreton-in-Marsh Station: gwrmm994
Looking towards Worcester from the Oxford end of the down
platform with a substantial number of milk churns standing on the platform
waiting for the next train. Milk churns were for many years the only way
farmers could move milk practically before road tankers came into being. The
size of the churns was dictated by the weight of milk a man could carry. Their
carriage by rail was only cost-effective because Parliament had decreed
railways as 'common carriers' meaning that the cost of transporting milk was
subject to legislation. July 1931
