GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

GWR 4-6-0 Castle class No 100 'A1 Lloyds' runs into the station on an up express circa 1936. Number 100 was originally re-built as No 4009 'Shooting Star' from a 'Star' class engine of same name and number at Swindon in April 1925 and was first allocated to Plymouth Laira shed. It was renamed and numbered in January 1936 and therefore the photograph seen above must have been taken shortly after it was overhauled. It remained in service until May 1950 when it was withdrawn from Old Oak Common shed.
