The central portion of the up platform which provided the waiting rooms and lavatories was demolished first. The old train shed at the Birmingham end of the platform was used by the contractor to store both plant, equipment and materials. The demolition work would have been carried out during 'possession-periods' at weekends, normally starting late Saturday evening, to avoid possible damage to passing traffic.
