This view taken during the final stages of the erection of the new main station building shows the original passenger walkway on the right. John Copsey notes that access to the up platform was gained from a new subway which was accessed from the new booking office which was sited to the left of this photograph. The original passenger which not only accessed the up platform also continued under the LNWR lines to the avenue station. It was therefore used as a public pathway replacing the footbridge sited at the Birmingham end of the station.
