'Stranger in the camp' - LSWR T9 4-4-0 No 725 is seen at the head of an up south coast express in the mid 1930s. This train was usually worked forward by a GWR locomotive so it must have failed causing the T9 to continue forward. Designed by Drummond for the LSWR and built by Dubbs & Company in October 1899 No 725 remained in service sufficiently long enough to carry its British Railways running No 30725 before being withdrawn in November 1952 from Fratton shed to be scrapped the following year at Ashford works.
