GWR 4-6-0 No 4037 'The South Wales Borderers' on an up express train in 1937. Number was a 'Castle' class locomotive rebuilt from 4-6-0 'Star' class No 4037 'Queen Phillipa' at Swindon works in June 1926 and lasted in service until withdrawn from St. Davids shed, Exeter, in September 1962 to be scrapped shortly afterwards by J Cashmore of Newport in December 1962.

The original Star class locomotive, No 4037 'Queen Phillipa' was itself rebuilt at Swindon works in December 1910 from one of the 4-4-2 locomotives designed by Churchward in 1906 to compare with the French imports.
