GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

Ex-GWR 4-6-0 Saint class No 4053 'Princess Alexandra' is seen with the early British Railway 'Lion on a bike' totem on its tender as it rests at the head of an up express circa 1951. This totem was later replaced by the left facing version after it was ruled by the 'powers that be' the totem should be common insofar it should always be facing to the left. Number 4053 was built at Swindon works in June 1914 and remained in service until July 1954 when it was withdrawn from Stafford Road shed to be scrapped at Swindon works.
