GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Long Marston Station: gwrlm484b
This close up of image 'gwrlm484' shows the changes to the
station building. The front has now changed from the very ornate timber facade
with one door located on the right as seen in image 'gwrlm481' to that seen
above. The facade has been changed as part of providing a ladies room on the
right, its door having a sign with the legend 'ladies room.
Another change probably introduced at the time of the change
of frontage to the booking office was the provision of a very ornate rainwater
gutter and down pipe. In addition the facilities to the accommodation have been
substatially improved as is evident of a stench pipe and waste pipes from the
first floor accommodation exiting to the left of the new facade. It would
appear that a bathroom has been installed which accounts for the new window
with a flat roof superceding the original dormer window. A 'new' electric light
above the lefthand doorway is also evident as are ducting for electric cables
passing under the gutter and around the gable end of the building.
The 'Gentlemen' sign is thought to direct pasengers to
facilities at the rear of the building because if it was located via the door
on the left then the sign would have been located above the door. The erection
of the footbridge has also caused the notice to passengers to be erected. The
GWR style sign on the buildings gable end informs them that 'Passengers are not
allowed to cross the railway except by means of the bridge'.
