GWR Route: Stratford on Avon to Honeybourne

Long Marston Station: gwrlm482a

Close up of image 'gwrlm482' shows the signal box showing the lamp fixed at angle on the corner of the box and oil storage cans used for the station lighting. The oil was used for the various lighting required on the railway ranging from the lamps on the crossing to the lamps on the platforms. The shape of these cans were different to those seen on the platform being shorter and more rounded whilst they were taller and tapered. The oil lamps that were used both on the signals and crossing gates would have been the responsibility of the 'bobby', the signalman. The lamps on the platforms would be the responsibility of the station staff normally delegated to the most junior member of staff.
