GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Long Marston Station: gwrlm482a
This close up of image 'gwrlm482' shows the signal box with
what appears to be oil storage cans on a porters trolley, the oil being used
for the various lighting required on the railway. The shape of these cans were
different to those seen on the platform being shorter and more rounded whilst
they were taller and tapered.
The oil lamps that were used both on the signals and
crossing gates would have been the responsibility of the 'bobby', the
signalman. The lamps on the platforms were the responsibility of the station
staff normally delegated to the most junior member of staff.
