First built at Swindon in July 1905 as 4-4-2 No 183 with half-cone boiler 'Red Gauntlet' (sic) was first allocated to Paddington shed. It received further modifications being fitted with a full-cone boiler in December 1909 and then a superheater fitted in October 1910 before being rebuilt as a 4-6-0 April 1912. Its name was altered to 'Redgauntlet' in June 1915 and it remained in service until it was withdrawn from Tyseley shed in March 1946.
