GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hatton Station: gwrhj1929
GWR Railcar No 29 complete with a trailing coach on a
Leamington to Stratford on Avon service circa 1942. The trailing coach appears
to be a converted steam railmotor. Trailers would need to be detached when the
Railcar had reached its final destination in order for it run around the
trailer to make the return journey. In Leamington the Railmotor would pull into
the line leading to the carriage sidings. The Railcar would be detached and
enter one of the loop lines. Using the gravity created by the falling gradient
the trailer would release its brakes and enter one of the other loop lines. The
Railcar could then reverse onto the trailer and move to the platform ready to
depart. The cost of this Railcar was £6.240 as was the price of the other
four built at the same time.
