Close up of image 'gwrhj103' showing the down island platform and the reasonably extensive passenger facilities for a small country junction station. The line on the right of the photograph was used by the Stratford upon Avon train on its arrival prior to crossing the main lines and travelling on to Leamington Spa. The buildings on the extreme right are adjacent to the back siding, which lead to a turntable. This was used to turn the 2-4-0 tender engines, which was the normal motive power on the Stratford upon Avon trains at the turn of the century. The turntable was removed in 1913. In 1938 there were 13 local passenger trains in each direction between Leamington and Stratford upon Avon (or beyond) plus an evening return trip by a Diesel Railcar. The Leamington to Stratford upon Avon local passenger trains normally comprised a two coach ‘D set’ with a 2-6-2T 51xx class as the motive power.
