GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

View on 11th February 1941 of Hockley's main office block being repaired some two months after the night of the air raid. The speed of the repair was a very creditable affair bearing in mind the shortage of labour and materials in war-torn Britain. The external brickwork has been finished and the roof is well on the way to be completed with just a few tiles left to be done. The distinctive veranda however will not be fully restored being repaired only as an open veranda with side hand rails. Despite their being a war on, commerce clearly continues as demonstrated by a new St Bruno Pipe Tobacco advert on the side of the horse-drawn wagon.
