GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hockley Station: gwrhd733
An internal view of Hockley's Invoicing and Staff Office
seen in 1967 just prior to its closure. The office was primarily responsible
for the consignment notes for goods collected from traders and used as the
basis for preparing the invoices which were then dispatched with the
consignment notes or sent by passenger train to the receiving station. In
addition, the office wages of staff were calculated here and the wage slips
prepared. Frank Popplewell lists other duties relating to staff as being the
issuing of free rail tickets and privilege orders, the latter enabling staff to
obtain up to 75 percent discount on tickets after they had used up their free
allocation. Accident reports, disciplinary reports, bonus payments, staff
rosters were other areas actioned by the office.
