GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hockley and Duddeston: gwrhd714
Looking along the "stop blocks" at the northern end of the
Top shed. Above the box van on the right can be seen the deck numbers and wagon
destination boards suspended from the roof. At the end of each deck a rubbish
bin was placed although Frank Popplewell recounts that the debris from emptied
wagons was often swept into the four foot between the two rows of wagons. The
job of cleaning the rubbish up was an unpopular duty especially as it was not
included in the numerous incentive schemes (piece work) therefore the time
spent reduced the labourer's earning potential. 1st August 1943
