This close up of image 'gwrhd691' shows that the open wagons have been sheeted to protect their contents from both the inclement weather and stray sparks and embers from the locomotive. The yard lamps, provided with access ladders to either side, are not tall enough to prevent significant shadows. Note the newly repaired sheeting above the old Outwards and Tranship shed probably replaced due to damage caused by smoke and perhaps thrown embers from shunting locomotives.
