View of station with lift tower housing the lift shaft and mechanism for raising and lowering loads from the subway. Why this was only necessary on this platform is unclear. It can only be assumed it had some connection with the goods yard rather than accommodating passengers luggage. Frank Popplewell describes the platform being used by a train replenishing supplies varying from towels to P & W requirements.
