Some three years after the closure of the goods yard on 31st
December 1962 there is still some evidence of the railway the most obvious
being the derrick crane standing in the middle of the yard. The piles of coal
and coke seem to indicate that the yard is still being used by the local coal
merchants although in this instance the coal was brought in by road. Coal
brought in by rail or road would be placed in 1cwt bags (cwt is short for 100
weight equivalent to 50.8 kilos) to be transhipped to the homes and businesses
in the area..
