GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Henley in Arden - New Station: gwrha472
Looking towards Stratford upon Avon and the down bay from
the Birmingham end of the down platform during the 1960s. The passenger
footbridge extended the full width of the station although the canopy
protecting the footbridge from the elements only existed between the two sets
of platforms. It must be assumed that as the footbridge was extended beyond the
island platform only because of the legal obligation on the GWR to provide the
right of way, the GWR's attitude was to provide only the basic facility. The
station has not significantly changed since it first opened the primary
difference being the replacement of gas lighting with electric lighting
authorised in 1947, the GWR's last year of independence before being
nationalised to become part of British Railways.
