Close up of image 'gwrha1397' showing the former branch terminus and the relationship of the goods sidings, goods shed and passenger station to the engine shed. The 'Henley goods' can be seen at the junction of the yard with the connecting line to the new station. The head shunt could accommodate 25 wagons but in practice this was quite adequate as goods trains were only half that length. It was standard practice that the train ran into the new station's down platform and stopped with the brake van outside the signal box so the signalman could hand the branch train staff to the guard. The train was then reversed onto the former Lapworth branch, the guard signalling to the driver from the veranda of his van, calling him back to the buffer stops. The guard then unlocked the points to the yard using the Annett's key incorporated in the end of the train staff to allow the train to draw forward into the yard.
