GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Fenny Compton: gwrfc83b
Close up of image 'gwrfc83' showing the signal box and the
Banbury end of the down platform. The light engine is standing opposite the
exchange sidings and might be involved in shunting duties. The ex-SMJ line
crossed the ex-GWR main line to the south of the station (up direction) and the
overbridge can be seen in the background of this photo. The ex-SMJ line also
crossed the Oxford canal (part of the Grand Union) at the same point.
It is apparent from this view that there is no gate let in
to the fencing on the down platform and if compared with image 'gwrfc82a' this is also true of the platform fencing
behind the photographer. This must mean that passengers from the western side
(down line) had to cross the line via the level crossing walk along the pathway
(seen in image 'gwrfc83a' and then return to the
down side by the barrow crossing.
