GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Danzey for Tanworth Station: gwrdt662
This view of the up platform's facilities enables us to
examine the GWR's sectional building system in operation. Panels were modular
and buildings could be created by adding plain panels, door panels, top quarter
window and half window panels dependent on the requirement. The building above
was nearly four times the length of the down platform's shelter.
The access to the gentlemen's toilet was on the left and
had a water tank located above the entrance to provide water to both the gents
and ladies. The door next to the gents is thought to be the ladies toilet as
the windows are, like the gents, glazed with obscure glass. Next to this with
the BR totem above was, it is believed, the booking office with the waiting
room at the far end. Note the small can by the door, it looks to be an oil can
used by staff to top up oil lamps either for signals or station lamps.
