GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Danzey for Tanworth Station: gwrdt657
This elevated view of the goods yard taken from the
passenger footbridge illustrates the layout and access to the goods yard. The
yard was very simple having a long siding and a shorter siding with a head
shunt. The white corrugated shed on the platform was an original structure and
is thought to provide storage for the various items that running a station
required including lamps, oil etc.
Larger brick built stations would have had such storage
facilities built into the general accommodation. The dark coloured goods shed
was also clad with corrugated sheeting. The two other small structures seen
adjacent to the up platform might have been used by P & W men or coal
merchants. Whilst there was a passenger footbridge, a barrow crossing at the
end of the station was still necessary to provide access for parcel traffic etc
from one platform to another.
