Looking down from the road bridge towards Hatton during the doubling and construction work

Looking down from the road bridge towards Hatton during the doubling and construction work on 10th November 1938. The branch and old station remained open for passengers. At the far end of the platform can be seen the new signal box under construction. In the goods loop adjacent to the raised wharf are a 5 plank open wagon and a brake van (telegraphic name TOAD). Almost 400 of these outside framed wooden bodied brake vans with iron under frames were constructed between 1882–87. Most had a 10ton rating originally, but towards the end of the First World War many were reconstructed as either 12ton brake vans (diagram AA16) or as tool vans for the Signal Department.
