GWR Route: Alcester to Hatton Junction

Claverdon Station: gwrc913

View of the north end of the station taken from the new Signal Box looking towards Hatton

Photograph of the north end of the station on 22nd April 1939, taken from the new Signal Box looking towards Hatton. The doubling of the main line has been completed and a trailing connection from the up line to the goods siding has been installed. The goods siding had trailing connections to the main running lines, necessitating a crossover at the north end.

This arrangement with trailing connections was normal practice as it eliminated the risks associated with facing points. As a result trains could only reverse into the goods siding from the main line. Half way between the crossover and the five plank open wagon on the siding is the independent disc signal which controlled movement from the siding. Just visible to the right of this disc signal is the siding catch point, which would divert or derail any vehicle moving without authorisation towards the running line.
