GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Birmingham Snow Hill Station: gwrbsh80b
Close up up of image 'gwrbsh80' showing Tyseley shed's
breakdown train and crew hard at work re-railing at least one wagon derailed on
the up centre road. The wagon must have derailed when passing over the scissors
crossing and fortunately the train had not travelled before coming to a stop.
The travelling crane has a short jib which would be necessary for working under
the roof of the train shed although its location would indicate that its
presence is precautionary. Most derailments were dealt by the use of jacks to
raise the wagon's wheel above rail height and then to position the wheel above
the rail by sliding the wagon side ways by using pinch bars etc before lowering
the wheel back down on to the rail.
