Close up of image 'gwrb771' showing the mixed train being assembled by the station porter who is standing ready to couple up the van. The vacuum fitted covered ventilated van (GW diagram V12) had the telegraphic code name MINK A. The white handle at the bottom right of the MINK A indicates that the Dean-Churchward cross corner brake is applied. On the wagon side above the brake lever is inscribed the wagon’s maximum load capacity (10 Tons) and wagon weight (Tare 6.15). Above this is the ‘Non Common User Plate’ indicating that this wagon is not part of the common pool and must be returned to the GWR. The MINK A V12s had externally operated shuttered louvers when built, but these were replaced with twin bonnet ventilators seen here in the early 1920’s.
