GWR Route: Hatton to Bearley and Alcester Branch

The Bearley end of the goods yard. Spencer’s Level Crossing and the Gate Keeper’s cottage are round the bend in the distance, approximately 400 yards from this point. A small brick built cottage was provided for the Spencer’s Level Crossing gate keeper adjacent to which was a three-lever Ground Frame, which controlled the level crossing bolts and the up and down distance signals. The gates were hand operated. From when the Branch Line reopened in 1923 until its temporary closure in 1939, the gate keeper was Mrs Kate Jeffs.
