Internal view of Hatton South Signal Box and Grade One relief signalman Jack Vine on the right in 1960. Martin Crane writes, 'The other signalman in the photo of the interior of Hatton South Signal Box is Relief Signalman Harry Evans. I worked with both him and Jack Vines (who was also a Reliefman) in the early 1970s'. The 84 lever framed signal box was opened on 8th January 1937 and replaced the original Hatton South Signal Box which was located just to the south of the station (see image 'gwrhj1880b') and Hatton Middle Signal Box located by Hatton South Junction (see image 'gwrhj1930'). The configuration of the equipment saw the signal diagram placed on the rear wall which overlooked the branch platform and a shelf immediately below to accommodate the instruments to contact adjacent signal boxes as well as indicating if a section of track was occupied or not. The main windows were to the sides and to the front.
