Ex-GWR 4-6-0 Hall class No 6990 'Witherslack Hall' heads a down express during the locomotive exchanges. Note behind the tender, as also seen in the other photgraphs of the locomotives involved in the exchanges, is the LNER Dynamometer coach. This coach was staffed by engineers and technicians to read and monitor the instruments and recording devices measuring the locomotive's performance. 30th June 1948
