Special Fordson tractor No 2316 towing a loaded modified
horse drawn trailer (No 3553) at Warwick Royal Show on 4th July 1931. The
following comment in the January 1932 edition of the Great Western Railway
Magazine was made in an article reviewing the highlights of the previous year:
'The Royal Agricultural Show was held on the Company's system at Warwick
during the year, and the whole of the cartage involved was performed by the
Company's own vehicles, these all being mechanically propelled. The same
procedure was adopted at the Three Counties and the Bath and West and Southern
Counties agricultural shows, held respectively at Hereford and Bristol. These
operations were much facilitated by the use of a vehicle acquired during the
year, namely a tractor fitted with caterpillar tread. Not only was this machine
able to handle a large quantity of traffic expeditiously, but it was able in
the event of one of the wheeled vehicles failing to negotiate an extra stiff
piece of ground, to go to its assistance.'
