GWR 4-6-0 No 6005 'King George II' on an up Birkenhead to Paddington express

GWR 4-6-0 No 6005 'King George II' on an up Birkenhead to Paddington express with the entire coaching stock in BR's "blood and custard" livery. Number 6005 'King George II' was built by Swindon in July 1927 and had a comparitive short service life being withdrawn in November 1962 from Old Oak Common shed before being scrapped in March 1963 by J Cashmore of Great Bridge. 5th Oct 1956

Rod Liddiard writes "When I was at 'Old Oak' in 1961 going home for a few days off I helped a Tyseley mate fire this engine on the 18.10 Paddington -Birkenhead to Snow Hill. (I didn't have to show my ticket - a free pass). It wasn't long out of a heavy general repair at Swindon and we clocked 104 MPH on the engine speedo on the run down off the Chilterns. They could be + or - 10 probably high but nice to think it was accurate. Number 6005 was a Stafford Road King".
