GWR Route: Stratford on Avon to Honeybourne

Sancta Lane Station: gwrsanct3921

Internal GWR correspondence from Mr Lambert dated 28th July 1890:

Dear Sir,

I enclose a copy of a letter which I have received from Mr Hobbs and shall be glad if you will let me have your report on the points raised therein.

You will see that the E&WJc Co object to bear any footing of the expense of altering the junction whilst at the same time they do not wish to see it closed.

From the latter part of the letter, however, it would appear that they are not prepared to accept either of the suggested alternatives, being of opinion that so long as the traffic is interchanged at this point, a junction with a loop line is indispensable. What grounds have the E&WJc Co for this assumption and do you consider that if the E&WJc Co definitely refuse to bear any portion of the expense either in connection with the alteration or the working of the junction, we close it altogether or bear the expense ourselves both as regards the work on our own and the E&WJc Company’s land, of course assuming that that Company ultimately agree to the plan being carried out on these terms?

To leave the junction open as it now exists and to relieve the E&WJc Co of the cost of working would mean a loss to this Company of about £107 a year.

Please let me hear from you by return.

Yours truly

For Mr Lambert
