GWR Route: The North Warwickshire Line
GWR Route: Stratford Upon Avon to Hatton
Stratford on Avon Station: gwrsa497
Ex-GWR 0-6-0 2251 class No 3217 is seen at the Birmingham
end of the down platform at the head of a local passenger service to Birmingham
in December 1964. The points are set to allow the train to continue 'wrong
road' along the down line to at least the junction with the goods yard
indicating that there might have been engineering works in place on the up line
requiring this unusual practice. Built at Swindon works December 1948, the last
month of the GWR's existence as an independent company, No 3217 was withdrawn
seventeen years later from Leamington Spa shed in November 1964 before being
scrapped the following December by J Cashmore of Great Bridge.
