GWR 4-6-0 Saint Class No 2981 'Ivanhoe' stands at signals opposite Stratford on Avon West Signal Box with a southbound troop train circa 1934. This 2902 class of locomotive was built by Swindon works in June 1905 with half-cone boiler and initially ran in service as No 181, an unnamed 4-4-2. Its first shed allocation Newton Abbot where it was named 'Ivanhoe' in 1907. Fitted with full-cone boiler with superheater October 1910 it was later rebuilt as a 4-6-0 July 1912. was to remain in service until March 1951 when it was withdrawn from BAN Banbury shed to be scrapped by Swindon works circa 1951.
