GWR 4-4-0 Earl class class No 3207 'Earl of St Germans' shunts coal wagons at Birmingham Road goods yard on 29th December 1936

GWR 4-4-0 Earl class class No 3207 'Earl of St Germans' shunts coal wagons at Birmingham Road goods yard on 29th December 1936. Built by Swindon in December 1936, this class of locomotive was nicknamed 'Dukedog' as the class used former Duke Class boilers on Bulldog Class frames. As such they were one of the last steam locomotive classes to retain outside frames. In this instance the frame of No 3410 and the boiler of No 3274 was used. It lost its name in June 1937 to Castle class No 5050 which was renamed from 'Devizes Castle' and its running number in 1947 when the number was allocated to one of Collet's 0-6-0 2251 goods class locomotives. Its first shed allocation was to Stratford on Avon and its last was TYS Tyseley shed where it was withdrawn in July 1948.
